The Sydney region is saturated with every kind of hair and makeup artist you can think of. As a wedding photographer, I’ve worked with so many and I can honestly say that Rebecca Shardlow is one of the best (and one of my favourites!) for wedding and event makeup and hair styling.
I’ve worked with Bec a few times and I am in LOVE with her work. If you’re looking for classic, romantic hairstyling coupled with soft, dewy and glowing makeup – she’s your go-to lady! Not only that, but she’s so amazing to deal with, super professional and such a kind hearted soul. I adore working with her and recommend her to all of my couples who are looking for a Sydney hair and makeup artist.
I interviewed Bec to get to know a little more about her and learn a bit more about her business
What Do You Do?
I am a mobile makeup artist and hair stylist for all events based in Sydney and surrounds.
How did you get started?
I got started through TAFE as i didn’t feel university was for me. This was a perfect outlet for me as i am very creative and artistic.
How long have you been doing hair and makeup?
I started back in 2011, 2012. From there I did family and friends makeup and any people from word of mouth. I really decided to take it full time in 2018 and went back to study some more and took a lot of masterclasses.
What Does a typical wedding day look like for you?
Waking up in the mornings anywhere from 3am, fitting in about 3-4 brides for hair and makeup (more people can be squeezed in for hair only and about 7 or so for makeup depending on the time of the wedding) I usually help the bride get into her dress and anything else she needs. I stay until the bride leaves or has photos so I can do touch ups and changes for hair and makeup if needed/requested.
What’s Your Why?
I do what I do because it gives me an outlet to be creative, have fun and to meet some incredible women along the way. I truly enjoy seeing how happy my brides and clients get when they look in the mirror after i am finished.
What’s the best thing about your job?
Being able to meet different women who I wouldn’t normally meet in my day to day life. I learn so much about everyone, it’s really lovely
What do you do when you’re not working in your business?
Looking after my little family, spending time with extended family and friends and going on little trips/adventures with them.
What would you do if you knew you wouldn’t fail?
I would probably open up another business, I have always been interested in creating my own cosmetics and hair accessories line. Hopefully sooner rather than later.
What’s your biggest wedding tip for couples?
My biggest tip would be to just breathe! Don’t let anyone dictate how your wedding should be. If something goes wrong don’t worry, no one else knows exactly how your day should go or look. They are all going to think it’s absolutely perfect the way it is!
